Karen Murphy makes a dynamic impact in every avenue of entertainment in which she performs. Karen appeared on Broadway as Madame Armfeldt in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music” opposite both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bernadette Peters. She has enjoyed many other roles on Broadway: “9 to 5” (as Margaret, the “Atta Girl” alcoholic), “All Shook Up,” the Tony-Award-winning “42nd Street” as Maggie Jones, “Titanic,” “A Christmas Carol” (original cast at Madison Square Garden), and “King David” at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Off-Broadway: “Zombie Prom” (Dramalogue and Encore Awards), the musical “Hysterical Blindness,” the Jerry Herman revue “Showtune,” “The Jerusalem Syndrome,” and the York Theatre’s “My Vaudeville Man,” for which Karen received a Drama Desk nomination for her acclaimed starring role. National Tours include “Mary Poppins,” “Les Miserables,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Finding Neverland,” and “White Christmas.” Karen made her New York City Opera debut in “The Most Happy Fella.” A favorite experience was impersonating Angela Lansbury as “Mame” in “Forbidden Broadway,” among many others, in the New York production, as well as in Japan and across the US. Karen has sung in concert halls around the country as a featured soloist, with major orchestras including the Pittsburgh, Seattle, Cincinnati, Toronto, Rochester and Indianapolis Symphonies. Karen is also an accomplished cabaret artist, most notably in her acclaimed one-woman show “Torchgoddess.” Her recordings include the original cast albums of “My Vaudeville Man,” “9 to 5,” and “Zombie Prom,” as well as “Torchgoddess,” and “I Won’t Dance” with Steve Ross.
